Deadline extended until 31 January
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has again extended the deadline for filing income tax returns for all categories of taxpayers, except companies, for 2024-25 by another month, until 31 January 2025.
According to an order issued today (24 December) by the NBR, both online e-returns and physical paper submissions within this extended period will not incur any penalties.
The NBR in another order also extended the deadline for companies to file tax returns by another month, until 15 February.

Earlier, the board had set 31 December and 15 January as the deadlines to submit tax returns.
This year, the NBR issued a special directive requiring all government employees in four city corporations Dhaka North, Dhaka South, Narayanganj, and Gazipur to submit their tax returns online.
The mandate also applies to major companies, including Unilever Bangladesh, British American Tobacco Bangladesh, Marico Bangladesh, Berger Paints Bangladesh, Bata Shoe Company (Bangladesh), and Nestlé Bangladesh.
Additionally, the directive extends to all officials and employees of scheduled banks across the country, as well as employees of mobile telecom service providers and the multinational companies mentioned in the order.
In response to requests from taxpayers, the NBR last month decided to extend the deadline.
The NBR anticipates that this year’s return filing process will be a hassle-free experience for taxpayers.
