The service allows users to transfer money by scanning a recipient’s Bangla QR code, eliminating the need to manually enter mobile or account numbers.
Bangladesh Bank has introduced a Bangla QR-based person-to-person (P2P) payment service from today (1 November) allowing individuals to transfer money by scanning another person’s QR code.
Shahriar Siddique, assistant spokesperson for Bangladesh Bank, confirmed the launch in a press release.
Under the new service, users will no longer need to manually enter the recipient’s mobile or account number to transfer money. Instead, they can scan the recipient’s Bangla QR code, verify the required information and complete the transaction.
The service will make person-to-person digital money transfers faster, safer and more convenient, the release says.
The initiative is also expected to reduce reliance on cash in everyday transactions and encourage wider use of digital payments. It will help make the country’s payment system more inclusive and promote cashless transactions, the release added.
