BDTask launches trading software for Bangladesh’s stock market

Bangladeshi software company BDTask Limited has launched Velexa OMS, a multi-tenant order management system that allows multiple brokerage houses to operate independently on a shared technology infrastructure.

In a press release Today (17 October), BDTask said the platform aims to lower brokerage houses’ technology costs and reduce reliance on foreign software providers, with plans to expand into international markets.

Bangladesh has more than 300 brokerage houses, but developing, acquiring and maintaining modern order management systems remains costly, particularly for smaller firms that lack the resources to maintain dedicated software and IT teams, the company said. Foreign solutions can also entail high costs, limited technical support and concerns over storing financial data abroad.

Sams Mohammad Tarek, managing director of BDTask Limited, said the company had spent the past five years developing capital market software to address these challenges.

“We have built a platform where each brokerage house will have its own independent system, while the entire setup remains centrally manageable and hosted in a data centre in Bangladesh,” he said.

Tarek said Velexa OMS would be offered on a subscription basis, with a small fee charged per transaction instead of an upfront payment. The model is intended to reduce the initial investment required for brokerage houses to adopt trading software.

The platform allows multiple firms to use the same infrastructure while keeping their orders, positions and client information separate. Stock exchanges could host the system to serve their member brokers, while individual brokerage houses could also operate it independently.

Velexa OMS supports rapid order routing and access to real-time market information. BDTask said the system is designed to process around 13,000 orders per second.

Its features include web-based and mobile trading, investor onboarding, risk-limit management, account-keeping and brokerage operations management. The system can also integrate with stock exchanges and support simulated trading, the company said.

The platform uses multiple servers to maintain service continuity, allowing another server to sustain operations if one encounters a problem. It also maintains separate client and transaction data for each brokerage house.

Tanzil Ahmed, director of BDTask Limited, said the platform’s multi-tenant architecture could facilitate international expansion by allowing stock exchanges and regional technology partners to deploy the system once and extend its services to member firms.

He said BDTask was already in discussions with stock exchanges and brokerage firms in the Middle East. The company also plans to expand its international operations through its Riyadh office.

A member of the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (Basis) and the Bangladesh Association of Contact Center and Outsourcing (Bacco), BDTask has operated in domestic and international technology markets for more than 12 years.

The company said it had developed more than 40 software products across sectors including hospitality, retail, healthcare, fintech, education, airline ticketing and agricultural technology. It employs around 80 people across its Dhaka and Riyadh offices.
